While Mom was over here in London visiting, we took a few little daytrips. All to places I've been before, but knew she would enjoy. Our first outing was a little jaunt on the train from Victoria down to Leeds Castle in Kent. Leeds is a beautiful estate full of all sorts of birds, water features, an aviary (sadly not open on the day we went), a fabulous maze, and lots of different buildings and gardens.
This was Mom's third visit to the UK (she came twice in 2010), but the longest she's ever been for. As we had lots of time to see things, we didn't head out every day. My dad doesn't fare well on outings that require lots of walking, so as this was a girls only sort of adventure, we did things we knew that would be less likely to happen the next time they're here together! Leeds has lots of walks, wanders, and stairs. We hit the jackpot with the day's weather - it was gorgeously sunny. It was also the Spring/Easter break for most of the UK & Europe and the castle has a little kids' adventure park as well as a seasonal special Easter path activity - so the grounds were also covered with small people and their parents!
Lately my Middie Blythe, Phoebe, has been coming out for little adventures as she fits so well in my handbag! Her yellow hair fit in so well with the sunshine that day. It was a great day out.
I hope May is as lovely as most of April has been!
